Automatic social comparison with the thin ideal

Keywords:

Social comparison/ Automaticity/ Thin ideal/ Implicit measures

Supervisors : Leila SELIMBEGOVIC (Assistant Professor, Université de Poitiers) & Armand CHATARD (Full Professor, Université de Poitiers)

My research program focused on the automaticity of social comparison processes. Relying on implicit measures and thin-ideal exposure as a manipulation of social comparison, I investigated if negative consequences, observed after thin ideal exposure, derived from an automatic process. In a related line of research, I attempted to identify certain conditions and strategies efficient in protecting women from the negative impact of thin ideal exposure.
