The Cognition, Clinic and Behavior team (Cognition, Clinique et Comportement, CoCliCo) gather tenured researchers and adjunct researchers from several scientific disciplines combining psychology, neuroscience and psychiatry. The team members belong to the CeRCA laboratory and the Clinical Research Unit (Unité de Recherche Clinique, URC) of the Laborit Hospital (Centre Hospitalier Laborit, CHL). CoCliCo examines the interplay of cognition, human behavior and clinical features, with the objective to provide a comprehensive vision and an in-depth understanding of their association. Within the framework of the triadic cognitive model, the team explores the influence of automatic, controlled and proprioceptive cognitive processes in normal human behaviors and in the etiology of clinical disorders. The team’s research is structured in 4 complementary scientific axes.
Axis 1: Automatic cognitions (Coordinator: A. Chatard). Research from the Axis 1 examines how attention is automatically captured by some environmental cues, how such cues activate mental representations, and how these representations, in turn, guide behaviors in a spontaneous and relatively automatic way, in particular when self-control ressources are reduced. Current research focuses on several psychopathological disorders such as addiction and suicidal behaviors.
Axis 2: Self-control (Coordinator: M. Audiffren). Research from the Axis 2 focuses on the exploration of cognitive processes allowing individuals to control their cognitions and behaviors. The objective of these fundamental work is to better understand the functioning of this self-control capacity and how it can be reduced, restored and/or trained. A side objective is, subsequently, to develop appropriate treatment for self-control related disorders.
Axis 3: Proprioception (Coordinator: J. Xavier). Research from the Axis 3 aims at understanding, on a behavioral and neuro-functional level, mechanisms underlying proprioceptive hyper-functionality in psychiatric disorders among both children and adults. A second objective is to improve proprioceptive disorders through neuro-stimulation and neuro-feedback techniques.
Axis 4: Clinical interventions (Coordinator: Ghina Harika-Germaneau). Research from the Axis 4 has a more applied focus and consists in designing and testing efficacy of innovative interventions (e.g. CBT, multisensory therapies, physical exercise, brain stimulation, multidomain approaches) based on the theoretical models developed in the previous axes. The objective is to prevent the development and/or maintenance of clinical disorders and dysfunctional behaviors (Trauma-related disorders, OCD, depressive disorders, addiction, schizophrenia).
